madagascar 3The community of Lake Conroe / Houston North KOA RV park and campground frequently has nice outdoor events to enjoy. On May 3 head over to Heritage Place for a free showing of a family movie in the park. The show scheduled for this evening is Madagascar 3, a film that is suitable for all ages. Snacks are available for purchase at concessions. Showtime is 8 p.m.

On May 2, Heritage Place will be the scene of a free concert as part of the First Thursday Concert Series. Bring your chair and blanket, and relax to the Texas country music of Nigel Edison. A concert will be presented on the first Thursday of every month from April through September, performed by a variety of bands. Hours of the concert are from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Live music is often heard at area establishments on various nights during the week. The Old Montgomery Steak House will present Alma Reed and Silver Moon on May 3, and The Corner Pub will present McFarland Jams on May 2.

The Red Velvet Cake War

red velvet cake warCampers at Lake Conroe / Houston North KOA RV park and campground who love comedic plays will enjoy Crighton Theatre’s presentation of The Red Velvet Cake War on April 26 and 27. A side-splittingly funny comedy, the southern-fried plot revolves around a reunion of the fictitious Verdeen family of Sweetgum, Texas. Among a series of hilarious antics, a bet is made on who makes the best red velvet cake. The show takes the audience on a fast paced romp to a surprising climax. Curtain rises at 8 p.m., and the admission is $12 to $17.

On April 26, patrons at The Corner Pub can listen to live music. Wendy Colonna and Shelley King will entertain at 9 p.m.

Those who are artistically inclined may want to attend a digital painting class held every Thursday morning at the Conroe Art League. Each 3-hour session is $25.

Nature Weekend – Earth Day

Hands on a globeThis coming weekend, April 19 through 21, Lake Conroe / Houston North KOA RV park and campground will filled with fun activities that celebrate nature and our wonderful planet. Our park understands the importance of being green and has been awarded KOA’s Camp Green recognition.

Campers will get satisfaction from learning how to make bird feeders and animal crafts out of recycled materials. They can also tour the campground’s vegetable garden and grow their own plants. Other activities on the agenda include a scavenger hunt and nature rubbings, as well as litter pick-up races and an ice cream social. Every member of the family will find this event most enjoyable.

For those who would like to go into Conroe for some live music, the Hill Country Gentlemen will entertain at the Red Brick Tavern on April 19 and Arthur Yoria will entertain at the Corner Pub on April 20. The Fantasticks Musical

the fantasticsOn April 12 and 13, campers at t Lake Conroe / Houston North KOA RV park and campground will have the opportunity to see a local production of The Fantasticks at Crighton Theatre. This play is the longest running musical in the world, having entranced audiences in Manhattan for 52 years. A romantic and funny production, the show has breathtaking poetry and exudes subtle sophistication that transcends cultural barriers. Tickets are $10 to $20. The curtain will rise on this timeless fable of love at 8 p.m.

It isn’t too late to attend the Montgomery County Fair and Rodeo, as it will continue to run through April 14. Highlights of Friday’s and Saturday’s agenda include a BBQ cook-off and a horseshoe pitching competition. Don’t miss this family event that offers something for everyone.

Another event on April 14 and 15 is the Texas Legacy Fest, an occasion honoring the 200th anniversary of the 1st Republic of Texas. Come enjoy music, dance and food from several cultures that make up the Texas melting pot.

Hank Williams Remembered

hankWhile country music has evolved over time, there are those who prefer the sound of the original artists in this genre. On April 6, campers at t Lake Conroe / Houston North KOA RV park and campground can enjoy the hits of one of the most important of the early trailblazers of these musicians – Hank Williams. This legendary performer had a major influence on country music  and gave the world songs like “Hey Good Lookin’,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.” So head over to the Crighton Theatre at 7:30 p.m., when Jake Penrod will sing these memorablev tunes, providing the audience with a wonderful evening of entertainment. Tickets range from $23 to $28.

The 56th Annual Montgomery County Fair and Rodeo will be held April 5 through April 14 at the Lone Star Convention & Expo Center and county fairgrounds. Aside from the rodeo and entertainment, this weekend’s events will include the preliminary judging of various categories including handicrafts and horticulture, as well as needlecrafts and photography.
